Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz consists of the three medical faculties of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, which is the biggest university in Northern Poland and altogether has about 40,000 students in the twin cities of Bydgoszcz and Torun. This renowned university offers a high-quality medical program in English, a program which is getting more and more popular among young Scandinavians.
There are presently more than 70 Scandinavian students attending this program, and we plan to offer admission to another 48 qualified Scandinavian applicants in 2012. The program starts early September with a 3-4 week Pre-Study course in the natural sciences. Orientations will be included in the first part of this course.
Admission interviews in several cities
Collegium Medicum always interviews candidates as part of the admission process. There is no written test, just the interview which focuses partly on your motivation, education and experience, and partly on your knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics. The interviews are carried out in cooperation with Agder Vitenskapsakademi, which is in charge of the selection of qualified candidates for these interviews. We plan to offer admission interviews in Oslo, Gothenburg and Stockholm in April. We will also offer the chance for admission later, most likely in June in Oslo and Kristiansand and possibly Copenhagen, if we get sufficiently many qualified candidates from Denmark .
Collegium Medicum is very concerned to give new students a good reception, and to offer them all the guidance and assistance they need as new students from foreign countries. Admission to the medical program in Bydgoszcz may sometimes be possible even if your grades are not all on the absolute top level. New students in Bydgoszcz will enjoy the friendly, cooperative atmosphere among the Scandinavian students, who are also increasingly cooperating with the large group of Polish medical students at the university.
Requirements for admission:
In order to be accepted for the admission interview/test, you will first of all need to have completed one of these exams:
· Studentereksamen
· Højere forberedelseseksamen
· Højere handelseksamen
· Højere teknisk eksamen
In addition, applicants should document good knowledge in Biology and in Chemistry and/or Physics. These requirements can be fulfilled by completing these subjects in Gymnasiet:
· Biologi niveau A (or at least B)
· Kemi niveau B (preferably A)
· Fysik niveau B
We will also consider your application if you have only Biology and Chemistry, or Biology and Physics. Your average grade in these subjects should be at least 7.
Relevant exams from colleges and universities may also strengthen your application. Relevant work from the health sector, voluntary and humanitarian work is also appreciated.
Generally, the more knowledge and the better grades you have in the natural science subjects, the better chances you will have for admission, and the better chances for completing the tough six-year medical study successfully.
In addition to your knowledge of these subjects, it is very important that you have a very strong motivation for the program and the medical profession, and have done some reflections about the challenges that you will meet on your way. This motivation should preferably be reflected in your application. You will find application guidance, application form and a health certificate form on our website.
Travel
to Bydgoszcz:
Many students travel to Bydgoszcz via Gdansk, which has a lot of
flight connections to Copenhagen. From Gdansk you can get to
Bydgoszcz in 2-3 hours by train or by taxi (which is not so
expensive in Poland, esp. if you travel together). The number of
direct flights to Bydgoszcz airport is at present limited to
Warszaw, London and a few other cities, but the university is
encouraging the airport to open direct flights to Scandinavia in
the future.
